HURRICANE IRMA TAKES ITS TOLL ON FLORIDA

Hurricane Irma ripped the state of Florida with a “healthy punch” over much of the last day and a half, leaving many without power, (reportedly 43%), storm surges that pushed water into the streets, and tons of debris blocking “normal travel”.

"Inescapable Irma, the hurricane that for a week tormented the entirety of the Florida peninsula unlike any storm that came before it, will finally find its way out of the state Monday.

She will leave behind destruction from Key West to probably Tallahassee. And yet the storm will also be remembered for what it wasn’t: In the end, Irma was not the feared Category 5 catastrophe she could have been, though the extent of her damage is still unknown. The dual-coast storm has already been blamed for five deaths."  link

Restoring power and getting necessary supplies to those stranded will be the order of the day as the first responders hit the streets to assess the damage.

"ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., -- Duke Energy Florida is mobilizing approximately 7,000 lineworkers, tree professionals, damage assessment and support personnel to safe locations prepared to respond to outages once Hurricane Irma reaches Florida.

Assistance from across the U.S. and Canada, including company resources from the Midwest, is on the way to assist with restoration efforts. Crews and equipment will be staged close to the state of Florida on Saturday and Sunday. The staging area affords rapid response but provides enough distance to ensure the safety of our crews and resources."  link

Sadly, its reported that looters hit the streets throughout the day and into the evening, including pre-planned robberies of gun shops.

Updates developing..........
